Re: flag desecration, I like the idea Scott Adams recommended were a flag burning amendment ever passed. In his blog, Scott wrote that a smart businessperson would immediately start manufacturing flags that were ALMOST Old Glory-- flags with 51 stars, 14 stripes, etc.--close enough to be recognizable but different enough to be legal to burn. That's the kind of opportunism that made America great.
I appreciate his unique gift for reductio ad absurdum.
