Why can't we have more compassionate, public-spirited guys like this in the Senate? For someone like me, laid off before I was old enough to qualify for Medicare, the cost of insurance is simply prohibitive. And we've been watching for some leader who arise who will help us. Here's what one Senator told his local paper about his views on health care reform this past September:
“When it came to Medicare I was very focused on a group — post 50, maybe more like post 55. People who have retired early, or unfortunately have been laid off early, who lose their health insurance and they’re too young to qualify for Medicare.
“What I was proposing was that they have an option to buy into Medicare early and again on the premise that that would be less expensive than the enormous cost. If you’re 55 or 60 and you’re without health insurance and you go in to try to buy it, because you’re older … you’re rated as a risk so you pay a lot of money.”

In Monday's Washington Post there was a column (their own or from someone else I don't remember) that I should have saved and sent on. I've been regretting my quick deletion and rushing off to do whatever it was I had to do. It said that the only explanation for Lieberman's recent antics is that he simply isn't very bright and doesn't have the foggiest idea what he's talking about at any time. Pretty persuasive.
Just read facebook for today, and there was the thing I was talking about - from The New Republic. Nailed it.
