Back in June, I wrote about the inanity of network news, particularly the morning shows, which, at the moment, were endlessly replaying footage of a bear trying to climb into a hammock.

It may surprise you to know that Stephen Colbert can be even more incisive on the topic. I found this on Arianna Huffington's Web site, which in turn got it from Atrios.

I wonder how long it will take for "smarter than the average bear" to disappear from our collection of idioms? We (Husband and I) still use it frequently, but I don't think it's much a part of "pop culture" anymore.

Sadly.

I made the mistake, when I was checking to make sure that link still worked, of listening to the theme song and then spent the whole day at work with "Yogi has it better than a millionaire, that's because he's smarter than the average bear!" running through my head.

On the other hand, for some reason when your comment was copied to my gmail account, it triggered a promo for a site called "Don't blame me -- I voted for Kerry."

Smarter than the average bear indeed.
