A little Tuareg music
I posted a link to this band, Tinariwen, which played at yesterday's World Cup Concert, over at Comic Strip of the Day.com and thought I'd share it here, too. They stirred up a lot more excitement than Alicia Keys, The Black Eyed Peas and Shakira.
Have a listen.
I enjoyed that, thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat was great. I'd never heard of them before but I like them enough to seek out their music now. Some great imagery in that video, too.
ReplyDeleteTuaregs are a people I'd like to know more about. They apparently have a very rich story-telling tradition, and the Tuareg stories I know are wise, funny and excellent. Also, while the men cover their faces, the women do not. I think this is (A) because the men spend more time on camels where there is dust, while the women are back in camp, and (B) they have a reputation for being, in the euphemism of the Hollywood Argyles, "mean motorscooters and bad go-getters." I don't think sane outsiders lust after Tuareg women. And, to bring this full circle, this musical collective is part of a revolutionary consciousness. In short, Tuaregs make nice music, great storytelling, and bad enemies.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Ronnie. Looking for more of the music now...also, looking up Tuaregs. Thanks for the post, Mike.
