About Me

- Name: Mike
- Location: Lebanon, New Hampshire, United States
I've been a professional writer for 30 years and have worked in television, radio and newspapers, as well as writing for advertising agencies and magazines. I maintain a site, www.comicstripoftheday.com, which is updated daily and takes much of my attention, though I still blog here when I have something to say. I'm also a dogowner, a dad and grandfather and, like apparently 40 percent of the people on this planet, a writer of children's stories. Most days, this blog should reflect some of that.

I'll take an alpaca on a surfboard over a bear in a hammock any day. Now THAT'S news.

I haven't quite made up my mind about this guy. A while ago, he gained some notoriety for taking a dog and a cat out to shoot the curl with him. As you can see from the comments on the linked video, opinion seems to be split on whether this is cool or constitutes animal cruelty.
I think I'm coming down on the side of "cool," though. Ask Mojo what he thinks of it, ronnie.

Hmm .. I did a little dry-land surfing and found some video of him with the alpaca, and it's a different picture in motion: The animal gets off the board about as quickly as it is able to. I think he's figured out how to get an animal to do what he tells it, but there's no video of the alpaca climbing onto the board on its own. I have a feeling that this guy wouldn't have any use for his "pets" if he could surf well enough to attract camera crews on his own.

That's the key, isn't it? If the animal shows signs of actually wanting to do it, that would be cool. So now I'm pretty squarely coming down on the side of "not cool."
I still want to know what Mojo thinks of it, though.
