Looked like there were several similarities to today's "sides", but the line that resonated with me was, "... we equally believed that those who stood against us held just as sacred conviction that were the opposite of ours, and we respected them as every man with a heart must respect those who give all for their belief." Today, the fervency is there on both sides, but "respect" for the other side no longer exists.
